THE GENESIS OF COACH BIG

George Manson (Coach BIG) has been a special educator for 30+ years; the last 20+ at Leslie High School in Leslie, Michigan.  In addition to running EI classroom and behavior block programs, in the Lansing School District, Manson has assisted in the creation of a certificate of completion program in his tenure at Leslie.  When the Ingham ISD and local districts collectively pooled their ARRA transition funds in 2009-10, Manson was named the transition coach from the Leslie School district.  He retained this role intermittently until present day.
In addition, during this time, Manson was part of a team of transition coaches that lobbied for the use of the ARRA funds in 2010 to be used on the Conover Company MECA system that is illustrated in this presentation.  Since the Ingham ISD and its local districts have acquired this instructional tool, Manson and the certificate program at Leslie have used several other courses under the Conover umbrella.  These include: Workplace Readiness, Functional Skills, Personal Responsibility, the Success Profiler, as well as MECA (Microcomputers in the Evaluation of Careers and Academics).  These courses have been integrated into the curriculum at Leslie High School.
